Outcomes

Outcomes are a field of Actions, and record the end result of carrying out the Action. Once an Outcome is set for an Action, the Action is said to be Complete.

Outcomes are visible when you edit the Outcome column of an Action:

Each Outcome relates to one Operation, but each Operation can have several different Outcomes.

Relationship between Status Tags and Outcomes

When an Outcome is set for an Action, the Status Tags can be automatically updated on the Family or Right to which the Action relates. Which Tags are set or cleared is determined by properties of the Outcome. The following image shows some Outcomes which set or remove certain Tags:

So, for example, an Action which has is given the Approved Outcome will apply the Status Tag Approved, and remove the Tag Holding, if it was applied.

Landmarks

The Landmark field of an Outcome is used to indicate that the Outcome relates to certain common, significant events such as Filing or Expiry. If an Outcome has a Landmark setting, then the completion date for any Action with that Outcome is used by the Right or Family as the Filing or Expiry date for example.

Listing or Editing Outcomes

You can access the configured Outcomes from the Settings->Action Settings page for a particular IP Type. There is a Tab for Outcomes, or you can double click the Outcomes column of the Operations table:

 

Adding a new Outcome

If you have the correct access privileges then you can use the Action Settings page for the IP Type you want to change to add an Outcome to an Operation.

Either:

  1. Select one (and only one) Operation in the Operations tab, then switch to the Outcomes tab and press the Add button above the Outcomes table.
  2. Double-click on the Outcomes field in the Operations table, then click the Add button in the drop down table which appears.
